Growing scientific understanding of brain science and the body-mind connection confirms that we are hard-wired for rhythmic coherence, balance and wellness. The blueprint for wellness and the impulse toward wholeness are intrinsically embedded in our physiology. Body awareness and emotional processing are crucial to rational decision-making, making integrative treatment models that incorporate awareness of both body and mind processes crucial to creating conscious change. Somatic psychotherapies that attend to organismic, implicit and sensory-motor messages are ideally suited to uncover and resolve disruptions to the natural state of balance in our being. Therapy is an exploration of our conscious and unconscious patterns. Through the deliberate direction of our awareness, we can creatively make choices that enable lasting change. We have the creative choice to reinterpret the meaning of our experiences, rewrite the story of our lives, and become more effective agents of change in the present moment to positively influence the direction of our future.
My philosophy is driven by a belief in your intrinsic wisdom and takes into account relational, social, cultural and transcendent aspects of your experience. I am committed to work with sensitivity and compassion to help you build on your strengths, become more resilient in the face of daily challenges, and live from your essential self. I use somatic awareness approaches to help your body complete and safely discharge the highly aroused survival energies from trauma (or chronic stress) that remain stuck in a conditioned autonomic response pattern. As the body releases accumulated stress, it returns to balance and coherent functioning, creating a sense of wholeness and unity to all life. I also specialize in the full spectrum of eating disorders (anorexia, bulimia, binge eating) using DBT and SE.
Because I embrace a holistic body-mind approach, and I believe in empowering your natural healing capacity, I prefer to work with individuals who are not depending on psychotropic medications for change. If you wish to avoid the need for medications, I am willing to work with you, provided you are able to incorporate the suggested practices to function in your daily life and enable emotional balance. If you are on psychiatric medications, and you wish to discontinue their use safely, I can support you through the process and help you find a supportive medical professional who can guide you.
